Welcome
Dear Intermountain Conference Participant,
We are excited for this year's Intermountain Conference on Gifted Education. This is our 30th conference and, this year, will feature a new format and location. The conference will be held this year from June 9 through 11 at the new Edith Bowen Laboratory School on the Utah State University campus. The conference will begin each day, as in the past, at 9:00 a.m. but will go until 5:00 p.m. While this will likely leave you tired at the end of a long day, we feel the three-day format will take less time out of your summer and increase the likelihood that you'll stay with us for the full three days. We'll try to have snacks available throughout the day, plus you'll notice that lunch is now included.
This year's theme is "Differentiation in Literacy Instruction: Teaching Students Who Already Read Well." Our speaker is Dr. Sally Reis from the University of Connecticut. She will will focus her remarks on what has been learned at the National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented in its studies about gifted and advanced readers. Dr. Reis will be with us only on Monday and Tuesday. I'll be providing general instruction on Wednesday. Further each day will feature three break-outs session times. Several of these break-out sessions will be strands that can be followed through all three days, with Monday devoted to content for differentiated literacy, Tuesday devoted to instruction for differentiated literacy, and Wednesday devoted to assessment for differentiated literacy. Further information on Dr. Reis is available on this website.
As always we will have excellent break-out sessions presented by local educators. If you have a great idea to share, you're invited to submit a proposal, which may be done electronically at this website.
Information on registration is also available here. We look forward to receiving your registration and meeting with you this summer.
Sincerely,

Scott L. Hunsaker
Conference Director
